Twice. OK, fine. Four times.<\/p>\n<p>INGREDIENTS<\/p>\n<p>1 cup light brown sugar<br \/>\n1 cup white sugar<br \/>\n3\/4 cup white vinegar<\/p>\n<p>~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp crushed red pepper (optional) (I did not use it)<br \/>\n2 tsp salt<br \/>\n2 tsp mustard seed<br \/>\n2 large cloves garlic, sliced<br \/>\n1\/4 cup sliced onion<br \/>\n1\/2 cup candied ginger, sliced<br \/>\n3 1\/2 cups pitted prunes, also sliced<\/p>\n<p>Combine sugars and vinegar.  Bring to a boil.<\/p>\n<p>Add rest, and simmer until thickened (One to two hours)<\/p>\n<p>**I usually double the plums to at least 7 cups, and am generous with my measurements of mustard seed, ginger, garlic and onion.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>(7 cups of plums should yield about 4 cups of chutney)<\/p>\n<p>It goes well with <a href=\"http:\/\/recipeforsuccess.wordpress.com\/2006\/02\/28\/samosas-in-phyllo\/\" target=\"_blank\">samosas<\/a>&#8230;and potatoes, rice, crackers&#8230;basically anything you can smear it on.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is Karen&#8217;s Grandma&#8217;s recipe.\u00a0 I felt bad for eating all of Karen&#8217;s stores, so I made my own batch.
